Security context
- 12 May 2025: double attack at Narena: 3 killed (reportedly including 2 Ghanaians), 2 Chinese abducted, machinery burned (unclaimed, JNIM hallmarks). 18 May 2026: 9 Chinese reportedly abducted at a Chinese-run site (single source, unverified). 29 Jan 2025: collapse near Danga, ~10–13 dead.
- Narena is one of the roadblock points of JNIM’s Bamako blockade declared 28 Apr 2026. The Chinese embassy’s 4 Dec 2025 warning names Kangaba, Narena, Kourémalé, Fourou, Bougouni, Yanfolila and Kéniéba.
