Armed group in Sokoto and Kebbi (NW Nigeria), proscribed by Nigeria in Jan 2025. Analysts disagree whether it is a distinct group or a local label for ISSP cells crossing from Niger.
Origin: Nigeria/Niger border
Area of operation: Northwest Nigeria (Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara)
Recent (to 21 Oct 2026)
- Nigerian Army raids on ISSP-labelled camps: Gumki Forest (Kebbi, 15 Sep), Karani (Sokoto, 27 Sep), Waria Forest and Sarma (Sokoto, ~18 Oct; 2 killed, 4 AKs and 8 motorcycles seized); suspected ISSP killed 2 soldiers at Maiyama, Kebbi (7 Oct). Monitors now use ‘ISSP’ rather than ‘Lakurawa’ (C3, Sahel Monitor, t.me/sahelmonitor/492, 18 Oct 2026).
