Telegram t.me/wagner_group2022, titled ‘Белые дяди в Африке’ (‘White Uncles in Africa’; ~15–47K views, one post 715K). Russian. Run by Wagner (‘W’) veterans; it promotes the ‘Mayak’ foundation for combat veterans (‘managed by veterans of W’), the ‘Business for the Front’ forums and branded merch. Covers Mali, CAR, Sudan and Ethiopia.
Origin: Russia (Wagner-veteran network)
Grade (02 Source Grading Method)
- Admiralty reliability: D · Score: 35% · Split: own-side & event relay: 38%; casualty & enemy claims: 15%. The few factual Sahel items checked out, but the volume is tiny and it is a partisan network. Useful for Russian PMC-community sentiment, recruitment and fundraising, and as an occasional admission of Russian losses.
Editorial slant
- Morale and lifestyle content with dehumanising slurs for jihadists (‘obmotki’), Tuaregs and Ukrainians. It regularly reposts graphic atrocity footage from Sudan, Nigeria and Chad (not reproduced here). Little original reporting; most Sahel items are relays of FAMa, Africa Corps or ‘Azawad propagandist’ claims, sometimes with a scepticism tag (‘Объективного контроля нет’, i.e. ‘no objective confirmation’).
Track record (spot-checks)
- HIT: Kaka ambush, ‘white men among the dead’ (18815), consistent with RFI’s 4 Africa Corps killed.
- HIT: Dioura post abandoned after evacuation (18896), consistent with the FAMa communiqué.
- HIT: Kidal entry with MSA and GATIA, ‘no clashes’ (19055), consistent with independent reporting.
- HIT: Intahaka gold mine back under FAMa (19147), consistent with Sahel Monitor and Departamente (not independent).
- OUT OF SCOPE: claims ‘W’ and FACA killed ~60 fighters on the CAR–Chad border (19110). Unverified.
